I. Visa
Requirements
Visa is required by all visitors to Ethiopia.
Types of visas:-
- Single entry tourist visa valid for three months,
- Multiple entry tourist visa valid for three months,
- For Ethiopian origin multiple entry tourist visa valid for 6 months.
1. Requirements for tourist visa
- Valid Passport (at least 6 months)
- Application form must be completed and signed by applicants
- Two recent passport size colour photograph
- Provided all requirements are fulfilled visa request shall be processed within 24 hours or a maximum 48 hours.
- For visa requests by mail a self-addressed envelop with sufficient pre paid postage stamp should be sent.
Tourist visa fees:-
- Single entry visa valid for 3 month 17 €
- Multiple entry visa valid for three months 26€

2. Requirements for business visa
- Valid Passport (at least 6 months)
- Application form must be completed and signed by applicants
- Two recent passport size colour photograph
- All business visa requests must attach a letter from the organization/company/Institute that has extended the invitation.
- Visa request shall be processed within 24 hours or a maximum 48 hours Provided all requirements are completed.
- For visa requests by mail a self-addressed envelop with sufficient pre paid postage stamp should be sent.
Business visa can be issued:-
- For researchers and academicians on their own initiative,
- To participate and conduct workshops, seminars and other similar activities for a short period of time,
- For members of international, regional, and sub-regional organizations to attend meetings
- For employees of different companies who conduct business in Ethiopia.
Business visa fees:-
- A single entry business visa valid for 3 months 17€
- A multiple entry business visa valid for 3 months 26€
- A multiple entry business visa valid for 6 months 43€
- A multiple entry business visa valid for 6 months is issued to Ethiopian origins who frequently travel for investment.

3. Requirements for transit visa
- Valid Passport (at least 6 month)
- Application form must be filled and signed by applicant’s
- Two recent passport size colour photograph
- Passengers in transit through Ethiopia, should produce confirmed onward bookings not more than 72 hours.
- Provided all requirements are fulfilled visa request shall be processed within 24 hours or a maximum 48 hours.
- For visa requests by mail a self-addressed envelop with sufficient pre paid postage stamp should be sent.

II. Passport Services
1 .Requirements for the issuance of new passport for Ethiopians
- Application form must be completed and signed by applicants
- Two recent passport size colour photograph
- A copy of the relevant pages of previous passport should be attached
- One of the following documents should be provided: copy of residence permit, meldzettle, birth certificate, marriage certificate, school certificate, driving licence.
- The applicant physical presence is mandatory.
- The fee for new passport is 43.00€

2. Requirements for passport renewal.
- Application form must be completed and signed by applicants
- Two recent passport size colour photograph
- Copy of residence permit or meldzettle
- Self-addressed stamped envelop should be sent along with the required fees and application form.
- The fee for passport renewal is 43.00€
N.B Please be informed that starting from 1 March 2010 passport renewal and new passport applications are forwarded to the Ethiopian Immigration and Nationality Affairs Authority.
III. Authentication and Legalization services
1. Requirements for authentication of documents
The Embassy authenticates documents signed and sealed by the authorized officials from the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs of Austria, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary and Slovakia.
Authentication fees:
- For nationals of Austrians, Slovakia and Hungary authentication fee is 87€ per page.
- For Ethiopian nationals authentication fee is 54€ per page.
2. Requirements for authentication of Adoption documents
The following documents should be stamped by the competent authorities and the authorized officials of the Ministry of European and International Affairs.
- Power of Attorney
- Police clearance
- Confirmation of income
- Health Certificate
- Verification of authenticity
- Authentication fee for adoption documents is 405.00€
Other Services to Ethiopians
1. Requirements for issuing support letter for Ethiopians returning to
Ethiopia
If an Ethiopian is returning for good after a certain stay in abroad, he/she is entitled to take personal effects with and without tax.
Required documents
- Two recent passport size colour photograph
- List of items
- Copy of resident permit or meldezettle
- Ethiopian Origin Residence Card
- A document that indicate the length of stay in Austria at least for a year
- A document that proof that she/he applicant is returning for good.
2. Requirements to acquire identification card for Ethiopian origin
- A Valid passport of the country of naturalization
- Application form must be completed and signed by applicants
- A copy of birth, marriage and school certificates, or a copy of relevant pages of Ethiopian passport should be attached
- Two recent passport size colour photograph
- If an applicant wishes to add children under 18 to the ID Card, he/she present two copies of the birth certificate of the child
- The applicant physical presence is mandatory
- The Ethiopian origin ID card is valid for 5 years.
- The fee for Ethiopian origin ID card is € 400.

3. Requirements to acquire letter of authorization
- Copy of valid passport

- The full name and address of the authorized person in Ethiopia

11. Directive on the Waiver and Issuance of Business Visa on arrival for Representatives, Officials and Experts Travelling to Ethiopia for Official Business, Meetings, Seminars and Workshops of the AU and the UNECA and other UN Organs and Agencies
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia;
Based on Ethiopia’s desire to continue contributing to the unity and development of Africa;
Mindful of Ethiopia’s responsibilities as a host to the African Union (AU) United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and other international organizations;
Recognizing the need for liberalizing the visa issuance procedure for representatives, officials and experts travelling to Ethiopia for official business or to attend meetings of these organizations;
Has issued the following:
Article 1
Representatives, officials and experts holding diplomatic or service passport of Member States or Laissez-passer of the AU and travelling to Ethiopia to attend AU meetings, seminars and workshops and other official functions are permitted to enter Ethiopia without a visa.
If the need arises for extending their stay beyond 30 days a request for extension should be submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the AU Secretariat or the resident Embassy of the country of the concerned official.
Representatives, officials and experts holding ordinary passports of the AU Member States as well as holders of diplomatic, service or ordinary passports of other states or a UN Laissez-passer and travelling to Ethiopia to attend the meetings and activities of the AU shall be issued business visa on arrival upon presenting an official letter explaining the purpose of their travel.
Representatives and officials of the organizations listed below and other organizations of similar nature to be decided by the Government, travelling to Ethiopia for official business or to attend meetings, seminars and workshops shall be issued business visa on arrival upon presentation of an official letter explaining the purposes of their travel:
- The Arab Maghreb Union (AMU),
- The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA),
- The Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS),
- The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS),
- The Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and
- The Southern African Development Community (SADC).
Article 2
Representatives, officials and expert travelling to Ethiopia for official business or to attend meetings, seminars and workshops organized by the UNECA and other organs and agencies of United Nations shall be issued business visa on arrival upon presentation of an official letter explaining the purpose of their trip.
Article 3
Resident employees of the AU, the UNECA, other organs and agencies of the UN as well as other international inter-governmental organizations and their dependents shall be issued multiple entry visas, for duration of two years.
